IQ

Specialist in defense & game IQ

“I don't just want your kid to get better at basketball. I want them to walk out of my gym more disciplined, more confident, and more sure of who they are.”

Skills. Basketball IQ. Discipline. Confidence. Every drill in the free session is built to move the needle on all four, because that is what carries an athlete from the driveway to the varsity roster and beyond.

Why parents sign up

More than a workout.
A head start.

Most youth practices are 60 minutes of standing in line. Ours is 60 minutes of purpose. Here's what your athlete walks away with.

Sharper skills, faster

Ball-handling, footwork, finishing and shooting mechanics broken down the way college programs teach them, at a level your athlete can actually absorb.

Parents notice: cleaner form within weeks

Basketball IQ

Reading the floor, spacing, defensive positioning and decision-making. Coach Clyburn's specialty, and the thing that separates players who make teams from players who make plays.

Parents notice: they start seeing the game differently

Discipline & confidence

High standards, clear expectations, and coaching that respects the athlete. Kids rise to it. The confidence follows them into the classroom and at home.

Parents notice: better focus, better attitude

A clear next step

Whether the goal is making the middle school team or playing in college, your athlete leaves with an honest read on where they are and what to work on.

Parents notice: a plan instead of guesswork

Small groups, real reps

Every athlete gets touches, corrections and eye contact from the coach. No one gets lost at the back of the line.

Parents notice: their kid actually gets coached

Questions parents ask

Everything you need to know.

Is it really free? What's the catch?

Yes, completely free. There is no card, no trial subscription, and nothing to cancel. The free session is how we introduce families to Be The 1 Academy. If your athlete loves it, we'll tell you about our teams. If not, you've still had a great hour of coaching.

What ages and skill levels can attend?

The session is built for boys and girls from roughly 4th through 12th grade, beginners through competitive players. Athletes are grouped by age and level so everyone gets appropriate reps. Not sure your child fits? Register and note it on the form; Coach Clyburn will reach out.

Can my athlete come more than once?

Yes. Sessions run every Wednesday and Friday from 5:30 to 6:30 PM. Register for the first one and we'll let you know how to keep coming while spots last.

Do parents stay?

You're welcome to stay and watch from the sideline, and many parents do. You're also welcome to drop off and pick up at 6:30. Either way, Coach will share what he saw at the end of the session.

What should my athlete bring?

Indoor basketball shoes, athletic clothes, a water bottle, and their own ball if they have one. Please arrive 10 minutes early for check-in.

Where exactly is the gym?

Be The 1 Academy is at 8302 Spruce St, Manassas, VA 20111, an easy drive from Northern Virginia and the DC metro area. Parking is available on site.

What if we register and can't make it?

No problem. Reply to your confirmation text or email and we'll move you to another Wednesday or Friday. We just ask for a heads-up so another athlete can take the spot.
